The San Antonio Spurs have received a major boost. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, De'Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper have passed pre-game evaluations and are cleared to play in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The return of these two players will greatly alleviate the Spurs' previously severe backcourt injury crisis. Rookie Harper was injured during a blocked layup attempt in the third quarter of Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. Although an MRI on Thursday showed a right adductor muscle injury, the medical team eventually gave him the green light after he completed the pre-game warm-up procedures.
Meanwhile, the team's core player, De'Aaron Fox, officially returned to the court. The nine-year veteran suffered a high ankle sprain in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals. Although he played through the injury to complete the series, he subsequently missed the first two games of the Western Conference Finals. In this season's playoffs, Fox averaged 18.8 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game, making him an indispensable offensive engine for the team.
Previously, with both Fox and Harper sidelined, the Spurs only had two healthy guards, Stephen Castle and Jordan McLaughlin, after losing Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. Now, with their two stars back in action, the Spurs, facing a backcourt shortage, will have key players supporting them on both ends of the court, allowing them to fully prepare for the crucial Game 3.
