LeBron James on the Lakers' elimination: They lost to the Thunder in terms of talent.

More than a week after the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, team star LeBron James spoke publicly about the loss on a podcast.
James admitted that the significant talent gap between the two teams was the core reason for the Lakers' elimination. In this playoff series, the Lakers, as the fourth seed, defeated the Houston Rockets in the first round, but then faced the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals.
With their star scorer Luka Doncic sidelined for the entire playoffs due to a left hamstring strain, the Lakers' overall strength was severely hampered. When discussing the series, James expressed his honest thoughts: "We fought, and we played to our full potential."
"But ultimately, if we're being completely honest, we were behind in terms of talent. We didn't lose to them in terms of effort, they didn't overpower us physically, and they weren't smarter than us. I think we were just beaten by the Thunder in terms of talent; they had just too much talent. Ultimately, we lost because of talent, especially when you know you're short-handed."
In addition to summarizing the season that just ended, the 41-year-old veteran also responded to his plans regarding whether he will return to the court for the 2026-27 season and start his 24th professional season.
James will become a free agent this summer, and he said, "I'm still in a relaxed state of mind and haven't really thought too much about it yet. I know I can control my own destiny, whether I stay with the Lakers or go somewhere else."
“I haven’t even gone on vacation with my family yet; that’s the first thing on my mind right now. I think we’ll start to have a general idea of my future in late June, when the free agency market opens in July.”
