Ipswich Town announced on their official website on Saturday that they have triggered the buy-out clause of on-loan Ajax English forward Chuba Akpom.
According to Ipswich Town's official statement, Akpom has signed on a three-year contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2029.
It is worth mentioning that this will be the first time that Akpom will be playing in the Premier League since leaving his childhood club Arsenal nine years ago.
About Chuba Akpom
The 30-year-old Chuba Akpom was born on October 9, 1995, in London, England. Standing at 1.86 meters tall, he primarily plays as a center forward, but can also play as a support striker, winger, or attacking midfielder. He holds dual British and Nigerian citizenship.
Akpom joined Arsenal's youth academy at the age of six and completed his first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in September 2013. During his time with the club, he won the FA Cup twice.
To gain more match experience, Akpom agreed to a loan spell at Brentford, Coventry City, Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Brighton & Hove Albion, and St. Truiden from January 2014 to the 2018 winter transfer window deadline day. During this time, he helped Hull City win the EFL Championship play-offs and led Brighton to promotion to the Premier League as runners-up.
In August 2018, Akpom joined PAOK Thessaloniki for £900,000.
During his two years at PAOK, Akpom won one Greek Super League title and one Greek Cup.
In September 2020, Akpom returned to England, joining Middlesbrough for £2.75 million.
During his three-year spell at Boro, he won the EFL Championship Golden Boot and EFL Championship Player of the Year awards.
In August 2023, Akpom joined Ajax for €12.3 million.
During his two-year spell at de Godenzonen, Akpom, despite decent performances, struggled to establish himself at the Eredivisie giants due to internal club issues and frequent managerial changes.
On the 2025 winter transfer window deadline day, Akpom joined Lille on-loan.
That summer, he joined Ipswich Town on-loan.
This season, Akpom has made 31 appearances for the newly promoted Premier League side in all competitions, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist.
