Augsburg have extended manager Manuel Baum's contract for two years, until June 2028.

Augsburg released a statement on Wednesday confirming a two-year contract extension with head coach Manuel Baum. According to the agreement, Baum's contract, originally set to expire this summer, has been extended to June 30, 2028.

The 46-year-old Baum has coached several teams, including Winterfelting, Starnberg 09, Unterhaching, and Schalke 04, and has also been in charge of youth training for Augsburg, the German national team, and RB Leipzig for a long time. He first took charge of Augsburg from December 2016 to April 2019, during which time he recorded a record of 24 wins, 23 draws, and 38 losses.

In December 2025, Baum succeeded Sandro Wagner as Augsburg's head coach. After his return, he led the team to 9 wins, 6 draws and 7 losses, ultimately finishing 9th in the Bundesliga and escaping relegation.

Regarding Baum's continued tenure, Augsburg CEO Michael Stroll explained: "After confirming through communication that Manuel still intended to continue as head coach, we made a clear decision to facilitate this. As a head coach, Manuel has performed excellently in all aspects in recent months. Therefore, we are very pleased that he will remain in his position."

Augsburg's sporting director, Beni Weber, added: "Manuel and the coaching staff turned things around during the challenging autumn of 2025. Thanks to a strong second half of the season, we also achieved Augsburg's third-best Bundesliga result in history. We firmly believe that this contract extension will lay a solid foundation for a successful future together."

According to Augsburg's original plan, Baumben was scheduled to move into a management position after his contract expired this summer. However, he is clearly very satisfied with the club's current arrangements: "Although it is different from my original intention to serve as the Director of Development and Football Innovation, the daily work with the team, staff and coaching staff in recent months has been very pleasant. Therefore, I very much hope to continue along the path we have embarked on together. I am looking forward to the various tasks that are coming up this summer."
