Fabrizio Romano refute rumours claiming that Barcelona were interested in joining the race to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon..

Sky Sports' renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, exclusively refuted rumours claiming that Barcelona were interested in joining the race to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon on Tuesday.

According to Romano, several clubs have indeed decided to join the race for Gordon this summer, but Barcelona is not one the of names on the shortlist.

The Blaugrana believe that Newcastle United's asking price of £80 million to £100 million for Gordon is too high, and that there are many wingers available for lower prices and at better value. Therefore, Barcelona has never considered joining the race for the player.

Romano also revealed that Barcelona are indeed interested in triggering the buy-out clause of Manchester United on-loan forward Marcus Rashford, but currently consider the Red Devils' demand of €30 million plus performance-related bonuses to be too high.

Due to La Liga's Squad Cost Limit (SCL) and the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules, both Barcelona and Manchester United will have their transfer spending limits for the summer impacted to some extent, so both clubs must handle Rashford's transfer with caution.

However, given Rashford's public statement after winning the La Liga title with Barcelona this season that he wants to stay, it is expected that the Blaugrana and Manchester United will renegotiate to find a compromise that would trigger the player's buy-out clause.

Upon verification, the rumours about Barcelona's interest in joining the race for Gordon originated from the club's mouthpiece, Radio Catalunya 1 (RAC1), and quickly spread throughout Europe after it was later reposted by another mouthpiece, Diario Sport.

About Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon, 25, was born on February 24, 2001, in Liverpool, Merseyside, England. He is 1.83 meters tall and primarily plays as a left winger, but can also play as a right winger or center forward. He has Irish and Scottish ancestry.

A lifelong Liverpool fan, Gordon joined the club's renowned youth academy at Melwood when he was young. Released at age 11, he joined the youth academy of their local rivals, Everton, before completing his first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in a Europa League match in December 2017.

On the 2021 winter transfer window deadline day, Gordon was loaned-out to Preston North End. During his time there, his impressive performances attracted the attention of Chelsea.

The following summer, in an attempt to force Everton to let him go, Gordon not only submitted a transfer request but also faked injury and illness, earning him the reputation of a traitor among Everton fans and management.

In late January 2023, Gordon moved to Newcastle United for £40 million.

In February of this year, Gordon scored four goals in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16s play-offs match against Qarabag, breaking the record to become the first player in Newcastle's history to score four goals in a single Champions League match.

Since joining the Magpies, Gordon has so far made 152 appearances for the Premier League club in all competitions, scoring 39 goals and providing 28 assists. During which he helped the club won the Carabao Cup once, breaking their 70-year major domestic title drought.
