Palmer, Foden and Maguire miss out on England national team call-up

Multiple sources have confirmed that information about the omission of several key players has already leaked before head coach Thomas Tuchel officially announced England's 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Chelsea star Cole Palmer, Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden, and Manchester United defender Harry Maguire have all been confirmed to miss the upcoming North American World Cup.
The omission of Palmer and Foden has drawn widespread attention. Both stars participated in the 2024 European Championship final, but both have suffered from inconsistent form and injuries at their clubs this season.
Meanwhile, young players such as Chelsea's Colwell, Newcastle United's Lewis Hall, Nottingham Forest's Gibbs-White, and Crystal Palace's Walton also failed to catch Tuchel's eye.
Among the players who were not selected, Maguire publicly expressed his disappointment on social media, writing: "After such a season, I was confident that I could play an important role for the national team this summer. I am shocked and extremely frustrated by this decision. Over the years, what I have loved most is wearing this jersey and representing my country. I wish the players all the best this summer."
Some were unfortunately left out, while others were surprisingly included. Ivan Toni, a striker currently playing in the Saudi Arabian professional league, is expected to be called up; he has scored 32 goals in Saudi Arabia this season. In addition, three Newcastle United players—Lieframento, Dan Burn, and Anthony Gordon—will also be selected. Manchester United's young midfielder, Kobe Menu, is also on the list.
According to FIFA regulations, the English Football Association must submit its final squad by May 31st. The team can still make substitutions for medical reasons up to 24 hours before England's opening World Cup group stage match against Croatia on June 17th.
