Borussia Mönchengladbach announced on Wednesday the signing of German left-back David Herold from Karlsruhe. The new contract will take effect on July 1st and run until June 30th, 2030.
The official announcement also stated that Herold will wear the number 20 jersey at Borussia Mönchengladbach. His contract with Karlsruhe was originally set to expire in 2027, and the transfer fee was approximately €3.5 million.
Regarding Herold's arrival, Borussia Mönchengladbach's sporting director, Ruben Schröder, commented: "David is a young and remarkably improved German player who continues to grow. He has enormous potential and sees Borussia Mönchengladbach as the ideal platform to take the next stage of his career. His strengths include excellent stamina, the ability to threaten the goal, and a tenacious character."
The 23-year-old Herold came through Bayern Munich's youth academy and joined Karlsruhe on a loan-to-buy deal in July 2023. To date, he has made 95 appearances for Karlsruhe, scoring 2 goals and providing 11 assists.
After completing the signing, Herold said in a statement: "Joining Borussia Mönchengladbach means a lot to me. This will be my first time playing in the Bundesliga, and it fulfills a dream I've had since I was a child."
“Joining such a historic club as Borussia Mönchengladbach is a major leap forward in my career. I experienced the unique atmosphere of Borussia-Park firsthand when we played against them in the German Cup last season. That’s why I’m really looking forward to stepping onto the pitch in front of the Mönchengladbach fans.”
