Callum Wilson emphasized that the team needs to focus on their own performance and strive to bring back victory.

Callum Wilson stated that West Ham United remain confident they can avoid relegation and remain in the Premier League. West Ham have two matches remaining: an away game against Newcastle United and a home game against Leeds United. Before heading to St. James' Park on Sunday, they are two points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who are outside the relegation zone.  

Despite Tottenham's upcoming matches against Chelsea and Everton, Callum Wilson says West Ham United's focus is entirely on their game against Newcastle United, hoping to keep their relegation hopes alive and bring the suspense to the final round.  

The number 9 striker had previously scored winning goals against Tottenham and Everton, and he nearly became the hero again against Arsenal on Sunday. However, after VAR intervention, referee Chris Cavani ruled that Pablo Felipe had fouled Raya, and the goal was disallowed.  

After the match, much of the attention was focused on the referee's decision, but Callum Wilson believes the team should be inspired by their performance against the league leaders until the very end and carry that competitive spirit into the remaining games. He said, "Even without gaining points, this match still brought many positive signs."  

"We were facing the Premier League champions this season, but we still managed to stay competitive with them until the very end. In another scenario, we would have had a real chance to get points from this game, which would have been a positive result. I think the players deserve a lot of credit. They basically implemented the established tactics and showed a very high level of commitment and fighting spirit on the field. Everyone gave their all for the team, and there were many key blocks and brilliant saves in the game."  

“We can’t be too disappointed by this. The team must see the positive side of the game and keep moving forward. After all, Tottenham’s result still leaves the relegation battle in suspense, so we must do our best to achieve the desired result against Newcastle United.”  

"The only thing you can control is to focus on yourself and do what needs to be done. If we can achieve the desired result, we can continue to put pressure on Tottenham, and then focus on the next game and see how things ultimately turn out."  

Ultimately, what determines the outcome of a season is the overall performance across all 38 league matches, not the results of a particular stage or a few games. By the end of the season, we will naturally have a clear answer regarding the overall performance and final ranking.  

Callum Wilson has scored six league goals this season, directly helping West Ham United secure 13 of their 36 points. These include winning goals against Tottenham and Everton, as well as crucial goals in victories against Nottingham Forest, Burnley, and a draw against Bournemouth.  

Despite starting only 10 of his 30 Premier League appearances this season, the striker still hopes to continue making a decisive impact on the team in the final stages of the season. He added: "There are still a few crucial games ahead, and I hope I can continue to help the team and make a difference in key moments."
