Draymond Green stated on ESPN's "NBA Insider" on Wednesday that he cannot imagine playing for a team other than the Golden State Warriors. Despite being previously involved in trade rumors surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo, Green's desire to stay with the team remains strong.
The 36-year-old Green is a 6'6" (1.98m) and 104kg (5.5kg) power forward who entered the NBA in the second round, 35th overall pick, in 2012. He has played 14 seasons for the Warriors, accumulating 949 regular season games, averaging 8.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 1.3 steals in 28.6 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 44.7% and a three-point percentage of 32.1%.
As for the highlights of Green's career, they were undoubtedly winning four NBA championships with Stephen Curry and others in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. He also won the Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) and steals title in 2017, and has received numerous honors including five All-Defensive First Team selections and four All-Star appearances.
On Wednesday, local time, Green spoke for the first time about his uncertain future while appearing as a guest on "NBA Insider": "I don't want to leave. In the last few years of my career, I never thought about leaving the Warriors. When you first enter the league, you might think, 'When will this all end?'"
He later added, "For me, I can't imagine wearing another team's jersey. However, I understand how this industry works. They have to want me as much as I want them for us to continue working together."
Draymond Green's current contract expires in 2027, with a $27.6 million player option for the 2026/27 season. According to a previous report by ESPN's Anthony Slater, Green may decline this option this summer and instead seek a lower-salary, long-term contract with the Warriors. This move would both alleviate the team's salary cap pressure and ensure he remains with the Warriors until the end of his career.
