Schalke 04 announced on Wednesday that they have renewed the contract of Mika Varentowicz. The new contract extends the original expiry date of this summer by four years, until June 30, 2030.
The 18-year-old Valentovitz primarily plays as a center forward, but can also play as an attacking midfielder, right midfielder, and right winger. He joined Schalke's U19 team from Werder Bremen at the age of 16 and made his first-team debut on October 25, 2025, in the 10th round of the 2. Bundesliga against Darmstadt.
To date, Valentowicz has made 13 appearances for Schalke in the 2. Bundesliga, contributing one assist. His playing time has been reduced since February due to a thigh injury.
According to a previous report by Bild, Schalke plans to loan out Valentovitz this summer for development. Club football director Yuri Mulder also mentioned this after Valentovitz's contract extension: "Mika's growth is one of the most exciting stories of the season. His fighting spirit, speed, and versatility perfectly match our current tactical needs."
“Mika is still young, but he is very clear about where he needs to improve. We will continue to work closely with him in these areas to explore and develop the best path for his development.”
Valentovitz said, "I am very grateful for the trust that the coaching staff, my teammates, and the club have always placed in me, both during my time in the youth academy and after joining the first team this season. I hope to continue to work hard to improve myself, keep learning, and perform at my best."
