Official announcement: Bayer Leverkusen has extended Nathan Terra's contract for three years, until June 2031.

Bayer Leverkusen announced on Sunday that they have extended the contract of 26-year-old Nigerian international Nathan Terra. The new contract extends the original 2028 expiry date by three years, until June 30, 2031.

Terra learned in the youth academies of Arsenal and Southampton in his early years, and made his Premier League debut for the "Saints" on June 19, 2020. He made 44 appearances for Southampton and also spent a season on loan at Burnley.

In August 2023, Terra transferred to Bayer Leverkusen for €23.3 million. At Leverkusen, he can play in multiple positions, including right midfielder, right winger, center forward, and attacking midfielder. To date, he has made 95 appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing 14 assists, and has won the Bundesliga title, the German Cup, and the German Super Cup with the team.

Terra had been sidelined since mid-January due to a knee injury and only officially returned to action last week. He had previously been linked with Turkish Super League powerhouse Besiktas, but this contract extension has completely ruled out the possibility of him leaving the team.

Following the contract extension, Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said: "We are delighted that a beloved top player has chosen to stay with the team for the long term. Nathan Terra performs exceptionally well on the pitch and is also a vital member of the dressing room. His strong sense of belonging to Leverkusen is evident in his daily life. From a competitive standpoint, Nathan's most outstanding contribution to the team is his speed and footballing talent."

Terra viewed the contract extension as "a reflection of a special relationship," adding, "I truly feel at home at Leverkusen, where we achieved many brilliant successes in recent years. I am very excited to be involved in building a brand new and strong team. I believe that in the coming years, we will definitely achieve our goals again."
