Celta Vigo completes contract extension with legendary veteran captain Iago Aspas..

Celta Vigo announced on their official website on Friday that they have extended the contract of their legendary veteran captain, former Spain international forward Iago Aspas.

According to Celta Vigo's official statement, Aspas has signed on a new three-year contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2029.

With this extension, Aspas will have played for Celta Vigo for 32 years by the time his current contract expires.

About Iago Aspas

The 38-year-old Aspas was born on August 1, 1987, in Moaña, Galicia, Spain. He is at 1.76 meters tall and primarily plays as a center forward but can also play as a right winger. He is a former Spanish international from 2016 to 2023. Several members of his family are also professional footballers.

Aspas joined Celta Vigo's youth academy at the age of eight, started playing for its B team in 2006 before completing his Celta Vigo first-team debut in June 2008.

For the next five years, Aspas became a key player for the team, helping Celta Vigo achieve promotion to La Liga in the 2011/12 season thanks to his high goal-scoring efficiency.

In the summer of 2013, Aspas joined Liverpool for £7 million, becoming the Reds' first signing of the summer transfer window.

However, due to the language barrier, Aspas struggled to adapt to the Premier League's style of play, managing only one goal throughout the season.

The following summer, Aspas was loaned-out to Sevilla.

Despite a poor performance during his loan spell, he still helped the team win the UEFA Europa League.

In the summer of 2015, Aspas returned to Celta Vigo for €5 million.

Since returning to the club, Aspas has suddenly rediscovered his consistently high goal-scoring efficiency, leading many fans to jokingly say that he can't score for any club other than Celta Vigo.

Since his first-team debut 18 years ago, Aspas has made 571 appearances for the La Liga club in all competitions, scoring 222 goals and providing 90 assists. He has helped the team qualify for the UEFA Europa League twice, been selected to the La Liga Team of the Year once, and is Celta Vigo's all-time leading top goalscorer.
