Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wins second consecutive MVP award, becoming the 14th player in NBA history to achieve this feat.

On May 18th , the NBA officially announced that Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named the 2025-26 regular season MVP. This is his second consecutive year winning the award, making him the 14th player in NBA history to achieve back-to-back MVP titles.

This season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder to the best record in the league, averaging 31.1 points per game and scoring 20+ points in his 140th consecutive regular season game , continuing to break league records. In the polls, he received 83 out of 100 first-place votes , a significant lead over second-place Nikola Doncic and third-place Victor Wahlbanama.

After receiving the award, Alexander gifted his teammates a luxury watch, a golf bag, and a custom-made trench coat to thank them for their support throughout the season. " Basketball is a team sport. If the team only won 10 games, I wouldn't be standing here, " Alexander said.

Despite Nikola Jokic's triple-double average of 27.7 points , 12.9 rebounds , and 10.7 assists this season , he still missed out on the MVP award. Meanwhile, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander impressed the voters again with his consistent clutch performances and the league's best record. Furthermore, he won the Best Clutch Player award this season, showcasing his superstar dominance.
