Official: Dick Edworth has been appointed as the head coach of Curaçao and will lead the team in the World Cup.

The Curaçao Football Federation (FFK) officially announced on Tuesday that 78-year-old Dutch coach Dick Advocaat will return to lead the national team. He will take over from Fred Rutten and lead the team in the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The official statement also confirmed that both sides are discussing the specific details of the appointment: "FFK will proceed with the relevant work cautiously in accordance with existing agreements and good governance principles, aiming to ensure the stability, clarity and continuity of the national team."

Advocaat coached the Dutch national team three times, leading them to the quarterfinals of the 1994 World Cup and the semifinals of the 2004 European Championship. He also coached several other national teams, including the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Russia, and Iraq, and led South Korea to the 2006 World Cup.

At the club level, Advocaat also achieved considerable success. He managed numerous renowned clubs, including PSV Eindhoven, Rangers, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Zenit Saint Petersburg, AZ Alkmaar, Serbia, Sunderland, Fenerbahce, and Feyenoord. His accolades include one UEFA Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one Eredivisie title, one Dutch Cup, four Dutch Super Cups, two Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups, one Scottish League Cup, one Russian Premier League title, and one Russian Super Cup.

In January 2024, Advocaat officially took over as head coach of the Curaçao national team. During his tenure, he achieved a record of 11 wins, 5 draws, and 2 losses, and led the team to a historic qualification for the World Cup finals.

Advocaat resigned as head coach of Curaçao in February due to his daughter's health issues. He was subsequently replaced by 63-year-old Rutten, but under Rutten's leadership, Curaçao suffered consecutive defeats against Australia and China.
