Athletic Bilbao announced on Tuesday that Edin Terčić will succeed Ernesto Valverde as first-team manager starting next season. The two sides signed a two-year contract, valid until June 30, 2028.
The 43-year-old Terčić has twice managed Borussia Dortmund, first from December 2020 to June 2021, and second from July 2022 to June 2024. His most notable achievements at Dortmund include leading the team to the 2020/21 German Cup title and reaching the 2023/24 Champions League final.
Terčić also held various positions at Borussia Dortmund, including scout, youth team assistant coach, first team assistant coach, and technical director. He also worked as an assistant coach at Besiktas and West Ham United, where he received guidance from managers Slaven Bilic and Julian Diess.
Since leaving Borussia Dortmund, Terčić has been linked with numerous clubs, including West Ham United, AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, and Monaco. His move to Athletic Bilbao means he will return to the managerial helm after nearly two years.
However, Athletic Bilbao is currently in the crucial final stretch of the season. With only four rounds remaining, they sit eighth in La Liga with a record of 13 wins, 5 draws, and 16 losses, accumulating 44 points, three points away from the European qualification zone.
