Barcelona announced on their official website on Monday that they have extended the contract of head coach, Hans-Dieter Flick.
According to Barça's official, Flick has signed on a new two-year contract with the club which will run until the summer of 2028, with an option to extend for another year.
After completing his contract extension procedures, Flick, who was interviewed by the Barcelona official website again, said: "Barça is more than just a football club to me, and it's an absolute pleasure to be able to continue coaching here. Every day I feel the passion from the management, staff, players, and fans, and that's the most amazing thing about this club."
"This contract extension has special significance for me," he added. "We've shared some wonderful moments together, and my hunger for success has become even stronger. I want to achieve more and win more titles. I'm very grateful for the club's continued trust in me, and I'm very happy about that."
About Hans Dieter-Flick
The 61-year-old Flick was born on February 24, 1965, in Heidelberg, Germany. He is 1.77 meters tall and played as a midfielder during his playing career. He was a Bayern Munich legend and also played for Sandhausen, Köln, and Victoria Bammental.
In 1996, while still active, Flick served as both player-manager and head coach of Victoria Bammental. Although the club was relegated, he was retained for two more seasons.
In July 2000, Flick was appointed head coach of Hoffenheim.
During his five-year spell at Hoffenheim, Flick helped the team win the North Baden Cup four times and the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg title once. However, he was sacked in November 2005 after failing to achieve the club's goal of promotion to the 2. Bundesliga.
The following July, Flick became assistant coach at Red Bull Salzburg, while also serving as assistant coach for the Germany national team, assisting Joachim Löw.
As assistant coach of Die Mannschaft, Flick helped the team win the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and reach the final of the 2008 European Championship.
From September 2014 to January 2017, Flick served as sporting director of the German Football Association.
From July 2017 to February of the following year, Flick returned to Hoffenheim as sporting director.
In July 2019, Flick first returned to Bayern Munich as assistant coach to then-head coach Niko Kovač, and was later appointed interim head coach after Kovač's dismissal in November of the same year, becoming the permanent head coach a month later.
During his year-and-a-half spell as Die Roten's head coach, Flick led the team to a sextuple triumph in 2020, winning the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, DFL-Super Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. He was also voted UEFA Coach of the Year that year.
In May 2021, Flick was appointed head coach of the Germany national team, but was sacked due to poor performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Russia and a shock defeat to Japan the following September.
In May 2024, Flick officially succeeded Xavi as Barcelona head coach.
Since becoming Barcelona's head coach, Flick has managed Blaugrana in 116 matches across all competitions, achieving 88 wins, 10 draws, and 18 losses, with a win percentage of 75.86%. He has won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey titles, and one Supercopa de España, as well as reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals once.
