Eintracht Frankfurt announced on their official website on Sunday that head coach Albert Riera has resigned.

Despite the separation, the management expressed their gratitude for the professionalism and hard work shown by Riera and his coaching staff.

Following the announcement, Riera said through Eintracht Frankfurt's official website: "The club and I have reached a consensus to end our cooperation. "I believe it is my duty to protect the club and the players, and I will always adhere to the same principle. I believe this is necessary to ensure the team can be fully committed and achieve success on the pitch. Personal interests have never been my top priority. My goal has always been, is, and will always be the same: to develop players and achieve excellent results."

During which he played for Mallorca, Bordeaux, Manchester City, Liverpool, Galatasaray, and many other clubs. He is also a former Spain international player.

After retiring in January 2018, Riera began preparing for the UEFA Pro Coaching License exam. He then returned to Galatasaray as an assistant coach in August of the following year, thus beginning his coaching career.

In July 2022, Riera was appointed head coach of Olimpija Ljubljana.

The following July, Riera was appointed the head coach at Celje.

During this spell, he helped Cérénice pull off a stunning upset win against Portuguese Primeira Lliga powerhouse Vitória Guimarães in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers and led the team to temporarily top the Slovenian First Division table, surpassing his former club Olimpija Ljubljana, earning further praise.

Three months later, Riera returned to Bordeaux as head coach.

While managing Bordeaux, Riera helped the club avoid relegation. However, due to severe financial problems, the club was administratively relegated to the non-league, forcing Riera to resign in the summer of 2024.

After leaving Bordeaux, Riera returned to Celje.

During this time, he again helped Celje achieve a Slovenian First Division and Slovenian Cup double. He even broke record by becoming the first head coach to lead a Slovenian club to the UEFA Conference League quarterfinals.

In late January 2026, Riera was appointed head coach of Eintracht Frankfurt.
