Jones: I will not back down because of a change in my playing position.

Liverpool will travel to Aston Villa for their 37th Premier League match of the 2025/26 season. Liverpool midfielder Jones stated that he enjoys playing in any position and will not back down from any change.

In the last round's key match, Liverpool took the lead with a goal from Hrafinbeh assisted by Ngumoha, but failed to change the score after conceding a goal, ultimately being held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea at Anfield. After winning 3, drawing 1 and losing 1 in the last 5 rounds, Liverpool are currently ranked 4th in the standings with 59 points.

Reflecting on their previous performance, Jones said, "It's been pretty much the same all season. There are some games that we think will be turning points, but then we lose the next one. Now we have a very important game ahead of us, and getting 3 points would be the best result."

“I just enjoy playing football. Whether I’m right-back, center-back, or striker, I want to play. I’m lucky to have good ball control skills and I’m confident in my abilities. I won’t back down because of a change in position. Of course, I want to play midfield, and I know I have the ability, but everything has to come first for the team. That’s the most important thing.”

Jones continued, "Although I currently play as a full-back, I often cut inside, giving me opportunities to enter the penalty area and try to score or assist. I wouldn't call myself a defender; I could say I'm a full-back or a midfielder. I just love playing football. As long as the ball is at my feet, my eyes light up and I smile."

“This is exactly what I want to do, especially in a team and club like this. As I said before, I’m fine with playing as a winger, striker, or center-back, whatever position is required.”

Furthermore, Emery's Aston Villa are currently 5th in the standings, tied with Liverpool on points, which means they only need 3 points to qualify for the Champions League.

Speaking about Aston Villa, Jones said, "It will always be a tough game against them. They are a very good team with a distinctive style of play."

"They still have the Europa League to play, and their next game, I remember, is against Manchester City, which is their final game of the season. I also think they must be thinking about Champions League qualification, because if they lose their next three games, including the game against us, they will likely miss out on Champions League qualification."

Jones added, "The most important thing is to leave with a victory. Maybe it's a game where we had complete possession and played very well, or maybe we scored first and then retreated to defend. But at this stage, the most important thing is to win the game. I know that, and the manager and my teammates know that too. That's the top priority."
