Spanish online media outlet Relevo's resident renowned Italian transfer journalist, Matteo Moretto, exclusively reported on Wednesday that Monaco plans to trigger the buy-out clause of on-loan Barcelona striker Ansu Fati.
According to the report, Monaco is very happy with Fati's performance and has decided to exercise their rights to him, considering him a key striker for the team.
Currently, Fati has not yet reached any personal terms with Monaco through his agent, and the club has also not reached an agreement with Barcelona. However, all four parties are expected to formally begin negotiations after the end of this season.
Moretto added that Monaco will trigger Fati's €11 million buy-out clause, but Barcelona wants to include a sell-on clause to better control the player's future transfer fees and revenue. Therefore, the two clubs still need to reach an agreement on this matter.
It is certain that Barcelona has no plans to bring Fati back into the team after this season, and the Blaugrana remain open to parting ways with the player who was once considered the successor to Leo Messi.
If Monaco triggers Fati's buyout clause, this means his 14-year relationship with Barcelona will come to an end.
About Ansu Fati
The 23-year-old Ansu Fati was born on October 31, 2002, in Guinea-Bissau. Standing at 1.78 meters tall, he holds dual Guinea-Bissau and Spanish citizenship. He primarily plays as a left winger, but can also play as a center forward or right winger. His father, several brothers, and cousin are all professional footballers.
Fati immigrated to Seville, Spain at the age of six and joined the Seville youth academy until 2012 when he and his brother moved to Barcelona's renowned La Masia youth academy.
Fati completed his Barcelona first-team debut at the end of August 2019. His impressive goal-scoring efficiency immediately earned him the title of "Leo Messi's successor" from the media, fans, and pundits.
Despite high expectations, Fati was plagued by injuries starting in 2020, constantly hindering his career development. Nevertheless, he still won one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey title, and one Supercopa de España with the team.
On the 2023 summer transfer window deadline day, Fati joined Brighton on-loan.
However, his performance at the Seagulls was less than ideal.
Upon returning to Barcelona the following summer after his loan spell, Fati became a member of the first-team again, but rarely received playing time due to fitness issues.
In July 2025, Fati joined Monaco on-loan with an option to buy.
This season, so far, Fati has made 28 appearances for the Ligue 1 powerhouse in all competitions, scoring 11 goals, and helping the team reach the Round of 16s of the Coupe de France.
