Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic will face a one-game suspension from the NBA after accumulating his 16th technical foul of the season, forcing him to miss Monday night's home game against the Washington Wizards.
In the Lakers' 116-99 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night, Doncic got into a physical altercation with Nets forward Zaire Williams in the third quarter and was subsequently called for a crucial technical foul.
After the game, Doncic expressed his frustration and dissatisfaction with the referee's calls. He explained that Williams yelled at him in the face three times in a row, and he didn't say a word and just wanted to get away, but the referee judged it as an exaggerated pushing motion and called technical fouls on both sides.
It's worth noting that Doncic received his 16th technical foul last week in the game against the Orlando Magic, but the Lakers successfully appealed, and the league overturned the call. However, many believe Doncic may not be able to replicate that luck this time.
So far this season, Doncic has demonstrated MVP-level dominance, averaging 33.7 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
Despite missing their star player, the Lakers are still expected to win against the Wizards. Data shows the Lakers have a dominant seven-game winning streak against the Wizards, while the latter have only managed 17 wins this season. The Lakers are poised to secure a comfortable victory even without Doncic.
