Sevilla FC has reached an agreement with Madrid-born coach Luis García Praza to become the first-team head coach on a contract that runs until June 30, 2027. Praza began his coaching career at the age of 27 when an injury forced him to end his playing career prematurely. He has a total of 229 managerial appearances in La Liga.
Luis García Praza previously coached Atlético Madrid B, Jeclano, Rayo Vallecano B, Talavera, and Benidorm. At the age of 30, he transitioned to coaching, managing Altea. He then coached Villajojosa for two seasons before taking charge of Villarreal's reserve team in the summer of 2005, leading them to promotion to Segunda División B. He subsequently joined Elche in the 2006/07 season, before returning to Benidorm the following year, leading the team to the Segunda División promotion playoffs.
In the 2008/09 season, Luis García Praza joined Levante, successfully helping the team avoid relegation in the Segunda División and leading them to promotion to La Liga the following season. In the 2009/10 season, he continued to manage Levante, ensuring the team remained in La Liga, before receiving an offer from Getafe. At Getafe, he successfully led the team back to La Liga, and in his third season, he became Getafe's manager with the most La Liga appearances, a position he held until his departure at the end of the 2013/14 season.
In the summer of 2014, Luis García Praza made his international coaching debut, joining Banias FC in the United Arab Emirates, where he played for two seasons. In 2017, he joined Beijing Renhe FC, leading the team to promotion to the Chinese Super League. He then briefly returned to Villarreal to coach the first team. After his second stint with Beijing Renhe, he went to Saudi Arabia to coach Al Shabab FC for six months, which remains his last overseas coaching stint to date.
In the summer of 2020, Luis García Praza took over Real Mallorca and successfully led the team to promotion to La Liga in his first season before leaving at the end of the 2021/22 season. His most recent managerial position was with Alavés, where he took over late in the same season and successfully promoted them to La Liga. He continued managing for a second season, successfully avoiding relegation, until his departure from the Mendyso Rosa Stadium in December 2024.
After officially becoming the head coach of Sevilla FC, Luis García Praza visited the team's training ground and sent his first message to the fans. Luis García Praza said, "I am very excited to start my work and very happy to be at this great club."
"I understand that the current situation is not as expected, but I believe that with the players' efforts, the enthusiasm of the new coaching team, and the support of the fans, we will definitely be able to turn things around and achieve our goals. I look forward to meeting you all and hope to see you on the field after two rounds of matches. I believe we can work together to achieve our common goals."
