Milwaukee Bucks center Myles Turner recently criticized former head coach Doc Rivers' team discipline issues during a podcast.
Turner revealed that during the disappointing 32-50 season that ended in failure and missed the playoffs, Rivers refused to fine anyone, leading to extreme chaos in the team's internal management.
In his blog post, Turner specifically named Giannis Antetokounmpo, accusing him of leading the way in disregarding team rules. Turner said, "Everyone was always late, came to watch film whenever they wanted, and skipped meetings. It was one of the craziest things I've ever experienced."
When asked who was most likely to be late, Turner bluntly stated, "Giannis. Giannis really does show up whenever he wants. Once I see that's the case, my thought is, 'Hey man, you're something else. They're not going to fine you anyway. Damn it, do whatever you want.'"
Turner, who joined the Bucks last summer with a four-year, $108.9 million contract, said that this lax atmosphere quickly spread. Turner recalled, "It was crazy, man. People would be an hour late for their flights. Eventually, I learned to arrive an hour after their announced flight departure time."
Sources indicate that Rivers maintained a disconnect with the players throughout his tenure, resulting in extremely low training intensity. Rivers has since been fired, and the Bucks have hired Tyler Jenkins as their new head coach.
Turner commented, "In any other team I've ever been to, everyone gets fined; there's a sense of order. You're late for a flight? Fine. You're late for a video review? Fine. But last year was the first time I didn't experience any of this. Let's see what the new coach, Jenkins, does."
