Slott believes that a good performance is more likely to bring about the desired result than simply defending and holding on.

The 36th round of the 2025/26 Premier League season will take place, with Liverpool hosting Chelsea at Anfield. Sloot stated that his team doesn't particularly rely on set pieces or win games by simply defending, therefore only a strong performance can increase their chances of victory.
In the last league match, Liverpool came back from two goals down to equalize thanks to goals from Szoboszlai and Gakopo, but then conceded another goal, ultimately losing 2-3 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
After failing to achieve a four-game winning streak, Liverpool are currently fourth in the standings with 58 points, tied with fifth-placed Aston Villa. Therefore, they need to win again to secure a Champions League spot.
Liverpool manager Sloot said at a press conference, "If you play well, it often leads to good results, so performance is very crucial and important. Of course, football isn't always like that; sometimes you can win with an average performance, but in the long run, if the team performs well enough, it's easier to get more points. However, our primary goal is to qualify for the Champions League."
“I think we’ve proven this season that a team needs to perform well to get results, because often it’s the opposite. We play well, but the results aren’t ideal. But we rarely play poorly and still win; that’s not our style. We’re not a team that relies heavily on set pieces or can win by simply defending. So, we usually have to play at a high level to win games.”
"Mindset has absolutely nothing to do with age."
When discussing ending the season in a more positive way, Slaughter pointed out, "I don't think even if we win all three of our last games and get very positive results, I don't think everyone will be satisfied with how we finished the season or the whole season. I've said many times that the most important thing for us is to win at least one more game, which we think should be enough to secure Champions League qualification. Of course, we're not 100% sure yet, because if we get four points, we'll be guaranteed qualification."
"On the positive side, some players who are very important to the team will either return this weekend or come back later, which will definitely help us achieve our goals."
In addition, Liverpool veterans Robertson and Salah will leave Anfield at the end of this season.
Sloot continued, "For me, mentality has nothing to do with age. I think everyone should know that when Salah was 26, or when these players were in their prime, they were already able to win the Champions League, the Premier League, and get 99 points. So, you don't need to wait until you're 32 to understand what the standard is."
“The recent Paris Saint-Germain players are a good example. They are not old, but they definitely have the standards needed to win, whether it is 11 players participating in the attack or 11 players participating in the defense.”
Sloot added, "For me, mentality has absolutely nothing to do with age; it depends more on a player's character and traits. Of course, a team can bring in such elements through the transfer market, but we already have many, perhaps all, players who possess the mentality required to play for this club."
