This Saturday's FA Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester City is significant for Trevor Chalobah, and more than just a match played at Wembley Stadium. Chelsea will face Manchester City at the Wembley arches for their 17th final appearance in this historic domestic cup competition, a match Chalobah is eagerly anticipating.
The players are confident about the upcoming match against Manchester City, while also acknowledging the team's fluctuating performance this season. However, Trevor Chalobah believes the team has the ability to deliver another Wembley night for the fans and lift the trophy again, bringing the season to a perfect close.
Trevor Chalobah said: "This final is very important. Our performance at Wembley Stadium has been inconsistent in recent years, so this game is especially important for both the players and the fans. We are very eager to win this game."
“Now is the time for us to go all out and seize the opportunity. This is not our ideal season, but we still have a chance to win a trophy. We are very aware of the importance of the FA Cup, and winning three trophies in two years would be a remarkable achievement.”
Trevor Chalobah joined Chelsea at the age of eight, giving him a deeper understanding of the club's history with the FA Cup than most. He himself has lifted this prestigious trophy multiple times with the team. Towards the end of the 2017/18 season, he trained with the first team in preparation for the FA Cup final against Manchester United. Just before the match, a player was sidelined with an injury, and Chalobah was temporarily called up to the matchday squad.
Regarding this, Trevor Chalobah said: "That was a day I never expected. The day before the final, Andreas Christensen was injured, and I was told that I would be on the roster. That day was very special for me and my family. Before the final, I thought I would only be able to watch from the stands, and I never expected to be sitting on the bench."
“It felt amazing when I saw my name on the matchday squad. Warming up at Wembley Stadium felt like a dream. It was my first time at Wembley, but because I had been training with the first team for the second half of the season, I wasn’t too nervous and felt ready. I also won a medal that day, which was the first senior trophy of my career.”
Trevor Chalobah arrived at Wembley as a young player in 2018, getting a feel for the atmosphere both on and off the pitch. This Saturday, he will return to the stadium and have the chance to help Chelsea win the FA Cup again. The England international believes his role in the dressing room will be similar to that of Rugier eight years ago.
He added, "I feel the situation is somewhat similar to before, only the roles have been reversed. Obviously, we have many young players in our team, and this time I am able to take on this role."
