After Crystal Palace's 0-3 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, manager Oliver Glasner displayed an objective and candid attitude in a post-match interview.
Glasner bluntly admitted that Manchester City's performance was far superior to Crystal Palace's, and pointed out that if they wanted to take points away from Manchester City's home ground, the team had to deliver an exceptionally high level of play, which Crystal Palace clearly failed to meet tonight.
In the interview, Glasner focused on analyzing the team's execution on the field. He stated that although the team scored an early goal through Brennan Johnson (which was later disallowed for a slight offside), that was almost the only time in the entire match that they successfully implemented their possession-based tactics.
Glasner criticized the team for being too slow in moving the ball when in possession and lacking the necessary tactical setup: "We need more runs to break down the opponent's defense, but this cannot be done overnight; it must be prepared through passing."
"However, during the preparation phase, our pace was too slow, and we even conceded several basic goals. It was fortunate that the opponent did not extend the lead further."
Speaking of the turning point of the match, Phil Foden's assist to Semenio for the first goal, Glasner was full of praise for the top-level individual ability he displayed. He exclaimed, "That goal showed the real difference in quality between the two teams."
"It was just a pass, but its deception and unpredictability were amazing. To be honest, our defense was completely caught off guard by the move, while Semenyo understood it perfectly. That's the strength of Manchester City, and the key to deciding the game."
Glasner concluded that although the team improved in the second half and attempted to fight back, their overall lack of competitive spirit ultimately led to the defeat. With only two rounds remaining in the league, Crystal Palace sits in 15th place with 44 points.
