German Counter Strike 2 (CS2) powerhouse BIG announced on Monday via their official X (Twitter) account that their women's team, BIG EQUIPA, will be temporarily disbanded indefinitely, effective immediately.
According to BIG's official statement, the club found no reason to continue operating the team due to a lack of major tournaments to participate in.
While BIG EQUIPA is temporarily disbanding, this does not mean BIG is withdrawing from the women's CS2 professional esports scene. BIG will consider reviving the team if a suitable opportunity arises in the future.
Following the announcement of BIG EQUIPA's temporary disbandment, team manager AlphaHirsch wrote through his official X account: "We've persevered and believed the competition would come as promised. For five months, we've waited patiently, full of hope, participated in men's competitions, showcased our skills, and communicated with organizers large and small... but it was all just talk..."
"To ensure fairness for our talented players, we've decided to suspend this project, allowing them to find different streaming sponsors and earn more of the income they deserve."
The disbandment of BIG EQUIPA means they have become the third major women's CS2 team to disband recently, following Imperial Valkyries and Ninjas in Pyjamas (NIP) Impact.
BIG EQUIPA previously won the ESL women's circuit Season 8, the final season of the tournament.
With this achievement, they were named Team of the Year at the HLTV Awards, and In-Game Leader ASTRA also won Player of the Year.
However, after AWP-er vicu moved to Pigeons (and has since moved to Clutchain fe) and rifler kyossa retired, the team was unable to continue playing together in 2026.
With the suspension of ESL Impact, the future of the women's professional CS esports scene has become uncertain.
In January of this year, BIG signed riflers aiM and sosya. At the time, BIG's COO also stated that the club would continue to build a women's team as long as it could "responsibly" support the women's team.
However, due to the scarcity of women's tournaments in Europe this year, and with the JB Pro League Female Season 1 being the only such tournament BIG EQUIPA will participate in in 2026, this project fell through.
BIG EQUIPA's final roster before disbanding was:
In-Game Leader: ASTRA
Rifler: Hanka
Rifler: aiM
Rifler: sosya
Rifler: Emmsan
Head Coach: Msn2k
