Alaba, 33, was born on June 24, 1992, in Vienna, Austria. He is 1.80 meters tall and primarily plays as a center back, but can also play as a left back or defensive midfielder. He holds Austrian, Nigerian, and Filipino citizenship.
At the age of nine, Alaba joined the youth academy of Aspern, a local non-league club in his hometown of Vienna. The following year, he joined the Austria Vienna youth academy and made five appearances for the Austria Vienna reserve team in April 2008.
